چکیده

پمپ‌های شهود ابزارهای فکری دارای قابلیت‌های چندگانه‌ای هستند که با آنها می‌توان مسائل پیچیدۀ فلسفی را بهتر درک کرد و تصورات و مفروضات عامیانه را مورد پرسش قرار داد . به علاوه، این ابزار فکری نقشی اساسی در پر کردن شکاف بین تأملات فلسفی و تحقیقات علمی ایفا می‌کند. این روش با ارائۀ سناریوهایی سبب درگیر شدن قوۀ تخیل مخاطب و برانگیختن تفکر انتقادی و بازنگری در باورهای او در مورد مسائل مختلف می‌شود و از این طریق مشوق کاوش عمیق‌تری در مورد این مسائل است. اما با همۀ فوایدی که پمپ‌های شهودی دارند، در استفاده از آنها باید احتیاط و دقت کرد؛ یعنی نباید آنها را معادل استدلال‌های صوری و تحقیقات تجربی تلقی کرد، بلکه بهتر است ابزاری کمکی برای روش‌های متعارف علمی و فلسفی در نظر گرفته شوند. به همین علت، دنت همواره بر درک قابلیت آنها برای گمراه کردن و به کارگیری محتاطانۀ آنها و استفاده از معیارهایی برای ارزیابی نتایج آنها تأکید می‌کند. به نظر دنت، «چرخاندن دستگیره‌ها» و همسویی با شواهد تجربی و اجتناب از ساده‌سازی بیش از حد از جملۀ معیارهای ارزیابی پمپ‌های شهود به شمار می‌آیند. در نهایت، با به رسمیت شناختن نقاط قوت و ضعف پمپ‌های شهود، می‌توان دامنۀ روش‌شناسی فلسفی را گسترش داد و از امکان‌های بیشتری برای تحقیقات و تأملات پیچیدۀ فلسفی استفاده کرد، در پر کردن شکاف بین فلسفه و علم تجربی و تعامل بیشتر این دو عرصه نقش ایفا کرد و از همه مهم‌تر از طریق باز گذاشتن راه بازنگری و بازاندیشی دائم، مانع جزم‌اندیشی و یک‌سونگری شد.

Intuition pumps are intellectual tools with multiple capabilities that can be used to better understand complex philosophical problems and to reveal, question, and correct our common notions and assumptions. In addition, this intellectual tool plays a fundamental role in bridging the gap between abstract philosophical reflections and empirical scientific research. According this method, by presenting scenarios, they engage the audience's imagination and provoke critical thinking and a deep reconsideration of their beliefs on various issues, thereby encouraging deeper exploration of these issues. However, with all the strengths that intuition pumps have, we must be careful in using them; in other words, they should not be considered equivalent to formal logical arguments and rigorous empirical research, but rather as supplementary tools to the standard scientific and philosophical methods. For this reason, Dennett always emphasizes understanding their potential to mislead, using them cautiously, and using criteria to evaluate their results. For Dennett, “turning the knobs,” compatibility with empirical evidence, and avoiding oversimplification are among the criteria for evaluating intuition pumps. Ultimately, by recognizing the strengths and weaknesses of intuition pumps, we can broaden the scope of philosophical methodology and use more possibilities for complex philosophical research and reflection, contribute to bridging the gap between philosophy and empirical science and to greater interaction between the two, and, most importantly, prevent dogmatism and narrow-mindedness by opening the way for constant revision and rethinking. In this research, information is collected by using library resources and the content is presented through a descriptive-analytical approach.
